Mukhya Mantri Chandru (Kannada: ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ಚಂದ್ರು) (born 28 August 1953) is a Kannada movie actor who resides in Bangalore, Karnataka. He is a versatile actor, easily fitting into comedy roles or playing more serious parts as a villain. Mukhya Mantri was a drama in which he played the lead which resulted in getting the prefix to his original name. Mukhya Mantri was a piece of work which was presented by the popular Kannada troupe, Kalagangotri. The drama which brought Chandru the recognition he deserved is staged even to this day as Chandru played an active Mukhya Mantri's (Chief minister's) role in the play. His Film career began in the year 1983, From Chakravyuha playing a negative politician to supporting character in Suryavamsha and has completed 450 movies.
One of his more memorable roles is his role as the overbearing landlord in the comedy Ganeshana Maduve, where he has acted with Anant Nag. Mukhyamantri Chandru is the only man with the title Mukhyamantri, which translates to "chief minister," even though he does not hold any political office. He was in news recently for criticizing Yediyurappa, then deputy chief minister of Karnataka, for not being considered a post in the Karnataka cabinet in spite of his capacity and caliber.[citation needed] He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Currently, Chandru is involved in various Kannada language activities concerning to the public, government and the mass media, has been instrumental in setting up bodies for the classical language's enhancement & encouragement.
